Healthy Chocolate Shake – Tastes Like a Frosty
I found this recipe at RabbitFoodformyBunnyTeeth.com and wanted to test it out for myself. It was really good but I made a couple minor adjustments for my taste.
TIPS:
- The recipe calls for a frozen banana right? Well I put a whole banana, peel and all in the freezer. When I took the banana out of the freezer, it was so frozen solid that I couldn’t get the peel off. Oops. Learn from me and pre-peel and slice the banana before freezing. They freeze up faster this way too, it doesn’t take long at all. Maybe a couple of hours or so. I’ve got a couple separate baggies of bananas in my freezer so I have them on hand for when I’m craving these.
- The frozen banana really adds to the “frostiness” of the shake making it thicker so I absolutely recommend it although you can use a room temperature banana. The shake will just be more liquid but still super chocolaty good.
I also used a whole teaspoon of chia seeds to thicken it up even more. The chia seeds get blended up entirely that you can’t even tell they are. Any time I can incorporate more chia into my diet, I do it.
- I added 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. It made the shake even richer.
- I also added a packet of organic stevia to my husband’s shake because he likes very sweet things but mine was sweet enough for me without it. It’s your preference.
YUM-EEE is all I can say about this shake. It’s chocolaty AND healthy AND filling AND chocolaty! Did I say chocolaty?
The kiddies will LOVE these too and never suspect they are healthy. I have a feeling I will be making a LOT of these this summer.
{ I suppose you could experiment with some ‘adult spirits’ like Baileys in place of the almond milk and have yourself a deliciously intoxicating shake on a warm summer night. }

Healthy Chocolate Shake - Tastes Like a Frosty
Author: The Organic Rabbit
Recipe type: Shake, Paleo, Vegan
Serves: 1
Ingredients
- 1 cup original unsweetened almond milk
- 1 frozen banana (see tip for the frozen banana)
- 1½ tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ - 1 teaspoon chia seeds (I used a whole teaspoon)
- 1 - 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract (I used 2 for more richness)
- 10 - 15 ice cubes (The more ice, the thicker it is. I used 15 and it was thick like a frosty)
- **Optional: 1 packet of stevia**
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in your blender or Nutribullet until all the ice is blended and smooth.
- If your shake isn't sweet enough for your taste, you can always add a packet of stevia but mine was very chocolaty and frosty-like without it.
